hi jay,

you need to check your nsswitch.conf and your pam.d entries.
these two control how your users are authenticated. having these checked, your samba shouldn't have a big problem.

junn,

thanks. its possible, but it seems like its not that easy, guest access is not permitted with samba pdc, like every user must be authenticated before it can gain access.

    hi jay,

    of course this is possible.

you have several options for this. check the "guest ok =" options
    in the
share you want the guest to have access to and you also have to
    set the
"guest account =" option but be sure the account has to be present in
/etc/passwd or in your server if configuration is set to "security =
    server".

    smb.conf is itself a complete documentation .
