smtp.gmail.com port 587, enable ssl.

check gmail's help. its in their faq.

i do the same thing but only on apple mail... i fetch all my mail from gmail. and i set gmail to automatically archive all downloaded messages. pretty neat trick. no reason why it shouldn't work on any opensource client.

cheers.

I need help in the ff situation:

I have a gmail account, and I have set it for pop3 access (using SSL). The
instructions give me two hosts to use: pop.gmail.com for receiving and
smtp.gmail.com for sending.

I can successfully use a FOSS client to pick up mail from the account.

So far, I couldn't send out mail through smtp.gmail.com using smtp. It seems
to require a tls session. I issue the starttls and ehlo commands, as
required, but smtp.gmail.com still refuses to accept my incoming test msg for
sending out. Any suggestions?

I'm using python's smtplib, though I don't think my problem is
language-dependent.
