I'm currently running Feisty (yes, I happen to like living at the
bleeding edge), but have been doing so only for the past two weeks or
so; before that, I've been on Edgy. For Java development, this is my
mix of packages:
- free-java-sdk : depends on other packages useful/needed for Java
development, in particular:
- fastjar
- classpath-tools
- sablevm (if you want to use it -- I don't)
- jikes
- sun-java5-sdk : The Sun Java 5 SDK, although I've already moved on
to using sun-java6-sdk as it has palpable performance benefits
- emacs-snapshot and jde : This is what I'd use for Java development,
although some would prefer the next item on the list
- eclipse : I can't recall whether or not Dapper (6.06) has Eclipse in
universe, but I do know Edgy has it.
- jikes : I had previously prefered to use this for compilation
instead of javac, but javac in sun-java6 has been pretty decent that
I've opted to use javac now.
I guess this one is a bit late, considering you're now on FC, but might
be helpful nonetheless.
P.S. There's a bug in semantic if you use emacs-snapshot instead of
emacs21, when installing jde. I can't recall what exactly it was -- had
to patch the elisp files manually. Was fixed as of Feisty I believe.
