i'm not sure what is the kernel version of the other distros you're using but the support for MCP51 HD Audio was officially added on v2.6.20 via the hda_intel driver (although the chipset was also known to be partially supported using the intel8x0 driver).
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.20 give it a try and if the problem persist, you might want to download the latest hda_intel.c source driver provided by nVidia: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.21.html On 3/15/07, David R. Meyer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
All, I have Googled this, but I might have missed something along way. Anyway, here is the situation. My son as a new Gateway MX 3417. AMD Turion 64 and 512MB ram. EVERYTHING works perfectly except the sound. I can't get the sound to work with ANY distro, and SLED 10 seems to have the rest of the issues worked out that the others still need tweaking. When I run Alsaconf it finds my sound card, and in fact, this is my card info: 00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2) Subsystem: Gateway 2000 Unknown device 0317 Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 217 Memory at b0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [50] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Capabilities: [6c] HyperTransport: MSI Mapping I don't know if I have to get a different driver or what, but I'm feeling very stupid, because I have never had this problem before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Dave -- David R. Meyer http://www.davidmeyer.org ********** Open Source. It's not just business...it's personal.
