I have some files here that you can test with :D Anyway, the script that I was planning was very simple. Just a bash script that will re-encode the file using sox then send it to xmms or audacious.

If you're going ahead with scripting, you might also want to try writing up your own GUI for zgsmplay using libgsm (which IIRC is bundled with the player) and be the first to do it ;) (I would try this myself if I only have some GSM audio files to test with...)
