i am also searching for such FLOSS solution: boot the base machine using a livecd with the imaging software, create a reasonably compressed image of the whole hdd and dump it on another location (USB external drive, ftp, NFS), then burn a bootable CD that contains the image (set) for restoring the configuration of the base machine. partimage might work but it only works with partitions. if you are deploying to identical machines then it would be nice if the bootable cd will also partition the disk for you once you boot the machine. sort of like dban[1] in reverse. :D [1] http://dban.sourceforge.net/ ciao! -- "Programming, an artform that fights back" Anuerin G.
