I tried learning that by-uuid scheme (in trying to fix my messed up fstab, which a hardcore slacker would normally do anyway) and the command "blkid" which gives the correct 'uuid' for each partition was hidden somewhere in the community docs!
Hehehe... It excites me though. On 4/10/07, Zak B. Elep <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

It's a peeve of mine as well, although I don't mind the /dev/sd?? notation (it's better in plan9 though, with the actual device is represented as a directory, /dev/sd??/, and all the partitions, ctl, and raw bits as files under that.) It appears the /dev/disk/by-uuid/ move is part of an effort to remove dependance on /etc/fstab and use libdevmapper (?) to discover the disks/partitions. A subtle consequence of this is my swap partition being listed twice in swapon -s, and I can't quite find why this is so. Cheers, Zakame -- Zak B.
