When you say "untainted", does it mean that the driver is in the kernel itself? If yes, I'm not sure how to answer you on this but if I'm not wrong, all the built-in WLAN drivers are based on 802.11 a/b only. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, what I'm using right now is a cheap [1]SMC Networks SMCWCB-G that uses an Atheros AR5005G chipset and I use it as my access point. Although, this cheap PCMCIA WLAN card supports only of a maximum TX-Power of 13dBm. But it's already good enough for me since I can still get "good" connection anywhere within my house. I'm using the [2]MadWiFi driver for this cardbus.
