I got CentOS5 and Fedora7 to install on MSI P965 Neo motherboard. IDE cd/dvd rom drive, and sata hard disk on the jmicron sata port (not the intel ich8 ports). If I plug the sata hard disks on the ich8 ports, the installer won't detect it, even with all_generic_ide option. Actually if I set all_generic_ide, it will just hang (or take a very long time to detect drives). After installation completes, transfer sata disk to ich8 port (boot loader won't detect the drive if its still in the jmicron sata port).
A better solution would be to get SATA cd/dvd rom drive, in the bios set Integrated Peripherals > On-chip ATA devices > IDE/RAID control to "disabled" (turns of jmicron), and all drives plugged in the ICH8 ports. Is there an MSI P965S? I think theres only P965 Platinum and P965 Neo.
