I tried to compile the kernel once with the Intel compiler (not
sure where I got it, maybe a temporary free download, or maybe
from some other source, I forget).  I don't think I ever got it 
to build correctly.  I didn't try too hard, only for maybe 3-4
hours.  And then I gave up.

hehehe, at the time I was wondering whether it would be possible
to build gentoo using the intel C compiler.  I think maybe I saw
an article about that and decided to try it.  I didn't even get
past the compiling a kernel stage though (on Mandriva it probably
was), I was taking baby steps, working on an already working linux
instead of actually trying to compile everything from scratch, as
with gentoo :-)
