hi gary,

thank you for documenting your meeting. for many of us who would have
wanted to be there but couldn't, this post helps us at least be in the
know about what went on and what has been decided by those in
attendance.

i laud you all for the time that you can give to PLUG and i hope that
the org will continue to be inclusive of all those of us who can only
participate virtually most of the time. some of us are, by
circumstance or accident of geography or time, unable to go to
meetings like this, flash mobilization is difficult especially for a
mailing list like ours which is asynchronous for the most part. our
silence should not necessarily be interpreted as apathy, but neither
does it signify assent concerning things that are not exposed on the
mailing list. if we want more participation, we should explore as many
vehicles for inclusion and remove any hindrances, if any.

for many, the activity is the thing. for a few, planning and
preparing; for most, just attending events as spectators is it. for
some, speaking, teaching, or manning a booth is fun; for others, being
part of the audience is what they want to do. for some, participating
in the message threads, posting as much as they can does it; for most,
just lurking, enjoying the discussions taking place is for them.

(i rarely dip in to the threads to post nowadays because it can be a
time sink if i let it.)

i think that as long as people don't get grandiose ideas and make
workable plans for the org that they communicate to the membership
(what membership?) and the community, there will be people who will
step up to the plate and contribute, participate and help PLUG succeed
in its objectives.

linux, free software and open source software grew because of
community. engage the community. lead it if you wish. or not. your
activity should be what you want to do, but don't expect everyone to
do the same thing.

now, back to the woodwork for me.

may the source always be with you all. ;)

p.s. i would have gone but had to prepare for lpi exams the following day.
