If you are looking at changing over the development team look at the skills
you have first. If they are all VB Programmers then you will lose the fight
from day one, If they do Net - Mondo, C++, C, PHP, Ruby, Ajax then you have
a hope.

What you have to look at is more the speed increases you will get if you
move over to Linux.

With the ability to cluster the software and manage the cluster easily you
may be able to make them see the light.

It is very hard to quess the correct answer for you, what you should look at
the companies future and plans for the future and do a cobit type plan using
Linux as a base for some of the systems, this will give you the reasoning
and the gains for each step you make as you move it over.

Doing this also will show you who you will have to get the correct answers
from for each step of the roll out and the future developments.

This will give each of them the ability to decide it for you, instead of you
pushing it.

Also windows only areas will be kept that way and you will not be trying to
fight against windows what you are pushing is the future plans of the
company which have already been decided by the management. In some areas it
will come down to TCO, others will be Features, some will be speed,
reliability, security, management.

The quickest way is to start with Firefox - Openoffice, and then show that
some computers have the windows tax when it is not needed there.

I know of a company that spent over US$300,000.00 in upgrades last year and
they are not even at VISTA yet. Costs are rising but the advantages that are
spun to the management are not realized but 90% of the staff.

Do you also want to retrain all staff on the new office, or just train the
small differences from Office to OO..
