i saw the slides a few days ago too. the performance
is kinda interesting and worth testing. it can be imple-
mented on newer deployment of machines but it's not
that easy on existing production servers. but the author
says it best,

"The point of this benchmark is not to unilaterally declare victory over
Linux, but to point out that FreeBSD is once again competitive with it on
modern high-end hardware and certain workloads. Of course, we are working on
other workloads too, and currently perform better than Linux on other
benchmarks, and still worse on others. There will no doubt be further
friendly competition between the two OSes that will work to the benefit of
both. Our message to the Linux developers is that they should not expect to
get away with resting on their laurels :-) "

Y! might benefit from this with their fBSD + MySQL
implementation but then again that might be scrapped
too if the MSFT takeover pushes through :)

kidding aside, i wonder what would be the reaction of
Sun with their recent acquisition of MySQL AB. MySQL
users might expect the best performance using Solaris
but we still have to wait for a whitepaper regarding that
or there's one already[1]? or MySQL/InnoDB performs
best on windows[2]? :D

i don't about know about the fBSD test, but MySQL
users knows that there's no significant performance
increase with MySQL on multiple cores[2].
