I always thought Gmail was different because it has very good anti-spam, and the reliability / availability is higher than many -- or most -- or almost all -- (privately run) services. But losing mail is a no-no, this never used to happen. It seems to me that Gmail reliability is no longer as bulletproof as it was even a year ago.
