hi ryan,

i think gabriel's point is not just knowing what he can try out, but
rather, he is suggesting topics for possible presentations during a
meet up. we can easily find out the equivalents of proprietary
software in the free software world using <insert name of preferred
search engine here> but sometimes it takes actually seeing someone
demonstrate using the software to us for it to click. show and tell.

in the early days of plug, i recall doc mana demonstrating SAMBA, and
dr. cito maramba and i discussing using PC NFS (on DOS) with Linux NFS
servers at one of our meetings.

we even had an interesting demonstration of Linux on a floppy as an X
server! ;) [wait, i think that was at a smaller private meeting.]
