Perl is a dirty language for lazy developers. And yes, the OO features are an ugly tack-on.
That said, it is probably the most powerful language if you're looking at compactness of code. I spent almost my entire programming career in Perl, and I still look upon it fondly. It is a lazy hacker's best friend. But it's horrible to maintain (as you have discovered!) and the expressive syntax means IDE's are few and far between (it seems that Komodo has failed; and the Eclipse plugin is fragile and easily confused by legitimate code). Personally I found the Camel book to be very well written... I guess that says something about my mind-set (it's a mess in there!) -- Orlando Andico +63.2.976.8659 | +63.920.903.0335 _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List http://lists.linux.org.ph/mailman/listinfo/plug Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
