I used NeoOffice (OpenOffice with minor tweaks specifically designed for Mac
OS, but the
codebase is still OpenOffice's) last year. I noticed 2 things:
a) Using the "Drawing" tools to draw diagrams (architectural diagrams) is more
difficult and
memory consuming. Dragging a group of diagrams is noticably slower as compared
to MS-Office (I
also used OpenOffice in Linux, but I can't recalled if they have the same
problem(s), Can somebody
verify this for me?)
b) Lack of fonts (at least it seems that they don't support some of the fonts
found in MS-Office),
especially for languages such as Chinese.
Regards,
Ludwig
P.S. --> On the other hand hand they (OpenOffice/NeoOffice) have features such
as converting
document to PDF (portable!) type documents. This feature is not found in
MS-Office (As of
MS-Office 2003).
