Is there a ventilation intake at the bottom?  if so, and you operate the laptop 
on a table, try elevating the rear side (or the side where vent is) but a 
centimeter or so.  Old laptops with bottom air intake need more space for 
getting more air in.

I'm not much a fan of those "laptop coolers" you can find in shops like CD-R 
King.
