Anybody here got experience with Supermicro-brand servers? We recently got the delivery of our first of these, a 1U rack form factor with a PDSMi+ mobo and 4 WD 160GB HDDs. I've encountered a concern:
I've booted 3 version of Ubuntu Linux (Feisty, Hardy, and Intrepid beta), FC8, and SystemRescueCD (with a 2.6.25 kernel). All are reporting ATA bus error on one of the drives. I've swapped drives and still get the same error. I've swapped SATA cables. No dice. Booting with ide=nodma kernel parameter, the error went away with the SystemRescueCD, but got the same error with the others. Boot parameter all_generic_ide/all-generice-ide don't work. It's either a kernel/driver problem or a hardware one. Just want to know if anybody encountered a similar/same problem with such a server? --- mike t. _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List http://lists.linux.org.ph/mailman/listinfo/plug Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
