Hi all, When I bought a new notebook last year I decided to give Ubuntu Desktop x64 a try for two things: I didn't want to waste 64-bit hardware by using a 32-bit OS (last time I checked the 64-bit versions of some 3rd-party drivers I would need for 64-bit XP or Vista aren't there), and because for me Ruby on Rails development on Windows suck big-time. After almost a year, I can say I'm happy with what I have. Some questions though:
1. For some flash content I sometimes have to reload the page or restart firefox altogether to be able to view the content. Haven't seen any solution for this, though I only searched once. Any pointers? 2. Sometimes it seems firefox hangs up my whole system. I say this because the hangups happen when firefox is taking time to load something or can't seem to connect to a certain site. What happens is keyboard stops responding, then later mouse, then I just force power-off and reboot. At first I thought it was a keyboard stuckup, but then it happened to me again while using a brand new usb keyboard. Btw, notebook is a Dell Vostro 1500. 3. How do I make pidgin and some other desktop app start upon logon? 4. Finally, my next investment this year will be on a smart phone. From your experience what works well with Ubuntu? My main concern is a good task manager application that syncs with a desktop version. When I was on Windows+Palm I was using Life Balance (http://www.llamagraphics.com) - would have loved to use this again, only sadly there is no version for Linux. Note that it doesn't have to be a complete solution, meaning both desktop and handheld apps don't have to be from the same developer/vendor. What I need is to organize my tasks on my desktop, sync to the handheld, have the handheld remind me, then I mark things as done on the handheld, then sync back. So the handheld task manager can be plain-vanilla, but the desktop should be more sophisticated, meaning more than just ordinary to-do lists. Would appreciate if people share what they use.
