As much as a possible colorful conspiracy theory would be nice, sadly this is not the case. The PSIA has been primarily an executive organization composed of decision makers in the the local software industry of which market forces do decide upon on technologies. It just so happens that in the Philippines there is a huge pool of .NET developers along with enterprise level investments which is also true for Java (ranging from Telcos to BPOs). Of course there are members that focus on other stuff like PHP, mobile, etc. but what PSIA stands for is the advancement of the industry in various technology fields. But recently, the PSIA has been evolving, perhaps due to the entry of companies that give a fresh face to local technology, hence its going towards to grassroots to engage in networking, business opportunities, etc. So I do believe that this is a great opportunity to network, advocate and perhaps influence decision makers on technology choices and strategies. (I've attended PSIA meetings in the past along with other initiatives because my company is an active member. Of course, since Calen is more "up there" in the PSIA echelon, he can add more to what I know or even correct me on areas that I may have said wrong) -- Jerome G.
