I fixed a bug or two, and wrote an experimental module that wasn't accepted.
I actually contributed more useful code to FreeRADIUS, and people
actually used this - Python authentication.

But - the key thing - I didn't own these projects back then. And, I
did these because they were work related.

Today, I believe the barrier to entry is much lower for an average guy
in college, or a fresh grad, to hack out something. Cheap broadband,
cheap PCs (especially laptops), more powerful tools.

Ah those were the days... when I was young and (more) idealistic!
