this doesn't seem to be a yes or no question.
maybe it depends on the definition of commercial and the definition of worth-it.

on being commercial,  do we mean commercial support (e.g. mysql,
postgresql, etc) or do we mean free to download and use (express/free
editions of some not-used-to-be-free-databases).  somehow looks like
the expensive ones are trying to slice into the cheap or free market
while the free ones are trying to get into where the money is.

on "worth-it", it depends who you ask. some factors may be available
money, time, technical inclination, current skillset, how db feature
sets match your requirements, etc...
