The "never ever use -O3" isn't an absolute rule.

Let say I use your fancy gcc flags with -O3 on my Linux distro, how
much performance will my dual-core laptop will get? .5%? .10%? vs with
the -O2 that is stable and reliable.

Thank you for pointing this out. Couldn't say much yet about this as we haven't performed any quantitative and comparative benchmarks at this point. We will try to do something like this and post it here and on the KahelOS website. However, based on user feedbacks who were previously been using Ubuntu on some few years old laptops, boot-up and system responsiveness have tremendous improvements.

For the -03 flag, a large majority of the package compilations use this. If a package was found to be unstable with it, we use -02. We'll also try to find out why it's unstable with -O3 and be responsible F/OSS user by sending bug reports or patches. But since most likely that this is an issue on the part of the source code of a project we really do not have control over, this is not highly prioritized just yet as we do not have enough hands right now :-) Sorry, but who wants to volunteer? Hehehe...

It's their distro. If they can provide a significantly faster (and still
stable) distro using this flag, we all can benefit from it. Even if they fail,
their experience may lead to improvements to GCC or other areas in the open
source universe, maybe even to the kernel. I say let them have a go at it.

KahelOS on its release was largely an effort put by only one of us. By us, I meant not the company we are a part of, but of the whole Filipino community. We may have heard a lot of criticisms and negative reactions on our part, but this is a modern Filipino endeavor we'd like to grow and gain acknowledgement globally. Even a Filipino fellow from abroad stepped indifferently on this project saying as far that he's ashamed of us :-) Oh well, there will always be people like that out there. Who thought there are still makapilis in this day and age?

Thank you all for the encouragements, insights and support. We will be working hard to continually improve KahelOS into something we all can be proud of. We welcome those who want to be a part of KahelOS.
