according to the new york times. microsoft is going to provide nokia
with "hundreds of millions" in engineering and marketing assistance.
that sounds like "payment" to me.

but then m$ dont care about nokia. its all about killing nokia's open
source supported and gaining a captive market for windows 7. nokia
will have to pay microsoft and its up to nokia to make their profit.
thats how M$ works with partners. obviously nokia thinks its different
this time around.
