For people want to donate, please consider a hardware donation to SRI Pilipinas, a non-profit group of farmer-trainers I coordinate. We train farmers in a new method of growing rice called System of Rice Intensification (SRI) that increases their yield, reduces their cost, minimizes their use of toxic chemicals, and makes their crop more resilient against typhoons and floods. (See PDI Oct 11, p.A4 and Sunday Bulletin Oct. 9 National and Metro News p. 4.)
We need 1 machine mostly for making copies of the SRI training video (it has to be expandable so that we can install 3 maybe 4 DVD writers), 1 machine as a dedicated SMS server, and 1 laptop for a portable version of the SMS server. These will all run Linux of course. By the way, in case you personally know some rice farmers, we send the free SRI primer by postal mail (and by texts too) to anyone who texts their full name/mailing address to our SRI Hotline, 0939-117-8999. Ask them to text us. Or if they don't have a cellphone, you can make the request for them and give us their full name/address. We also need volunteers to do some Web things (mostly on Google maps, to put online the places where we have trainers, have done trainings, have farmer-partners, etc.) Greetings to all, Obet Roberto Verzola Coordinator, SRI Pilipinas Ramon Tayag wrote: > Does PLUG have a program like this?
