I'd like to ask for possible hints if there are open source and commercial
offerings for public + private cloud controllers:
1. Priority is constructing an internal cloud system to repurpose machines that
will be freed up.
2. In the event that there's not enough capacity internally, spin instances in
the public cloud (we use Rackspace Cloud)
3. Have an interface wherein developers can select a list of profiles and
software collections to be configured on the vm to be provisioned. And perhaps
a download vm facility.
4. As my employer is in the financial industry, supporting Solaris 10 is a must
(at least just on x86, though we do have solaris sparc and aix being supported,
and HPUX itanium looming on the horizon.
Someone pointed me to both VCAC (now vrealize) and Openstack, then I guess I
need to weave in configuration management capabilities. Making one is still in
the cards though I'd definitely want to avoid that nuclear option.
