I can now generate a .png file once every hour. Danny, how do I go about sending it to your server?
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all who have extended their support and encouragement, including code suggestions. Special thanks to Mr. fooler, to took the trouble to write a bash script, which worked ok. (Send me private mail if you want to know the details.) I used some ideas from the script, but I had to add lots of other code. Since I am much more comfortable with python, that's what I eventually used. I also had to make a choice between gnuplot and matplotlib. Mr. fooler's gnuplot script worked nicely and gave me ideas. But when I needed to make changes, I was getting all kinds of problems. (This is my first try to use plotting software in this fashion.) So I also tried matplotlib. I was initially stuck with problems in both, but I finally made a breakthrough in matplotlib, so that's what I ended up using. This was probably more about problems with me than with the programs themselves. I would have preferred gnuplot because it is faster and smaller. Maybe, if I were not so pressed for time, I could go back and make things work in gnuplot too. So in the end, I used wget and matplotlib with python tying everything together. I'm still trying to work out how to use python to upload a .png file and accompanying caption to an fb page. Any suggestions would be welcome. By the way, my piece about the whole campaign was published yesterday, Easter Sunday, at the Talk of the Town Section of the Phil Daily Inquirer (Apr. 5, 2015).
