Is there really any more to it than

1. install bind*
2. configure it to be "authoritative for ."
3. add entries for com, org, etc...?

* or whichever your favorite dns server is


It would probably be less interesting to setup the root server itself
than it is to setup the app / process that handles registrations. But
if that were the case, you can already play around with it on your own
domain...
