I know mint as an end-user perspective since I use it.

Mint takes the base release from Ubuntu and makes it usable immediately.
They've made the choice to include proprietary software and drivers where it
makes sense from an end user perspective.

Pretty darn clean installation, and I love the fact that it just works. I
use the Fluxbox version, which has been trimmed down, but I stil find it
usable with the right amount of software by default, and I love their
MintInstall application (apt frontend).

That said, it's not for everyone. FSF & open source purists would frown
upon the choice to include proprietary drivers.

Just my .02. YMMV.
