We have a number of virtual ... er, virtualization ... experts here and I would like your advice.
I'd been a paying customer of VMware since the pre-1.0 beta testing days, but I stopped after paying for the VMware-workstation-5.5.3 upgrade. There are only 2 Winduhs apps that I run extremely rarely: MapInfo (last upgraded 1998) and the Garmin GPS maps for my eTrex unit. Both run on Winduhs 98se. I have a vm/ partition with that guest OS installed along with the two apps and spatial data. Am I correct in assuming that all I need is the free VMware player, and not the server? When I scan the release notes for the latest (2.5.2) player I see only the newest Microsoft OS listed, not something as old as 98se. Will the player use the existing partition with guest OS and applications? I'm open to suggestions on how to regain access, particularly to MapInfo as I will probably need to create some maps in support of a project. Thanks, Rich -- Richard B.
