Running OpenOffice (2.2.1 on Mandriva 2008 if it makes a difference?)

The sequence of events ...
    Start OpenOffice
File -> Recent documents -> filename (happens to be an ods document)
    Status message reads "Loading document"
Progress bar indicates about 50 percent complete and stalls for
about 3 minutes (give or take a few seconds)
An OpenOffice 2.2 Error message dialog box appears
Click OK and the Error message dialog box closes
    The document loads successfully

The contents of the Error message box ...
    An International "No Entry" symbol
The message "General Internet error has occurred"
    An "OK" button.

The document does have links to other documents on the same machine, but
nothing to the Internet that I know of

Is there a reason for OpenOffice to be trying to connect to the Internet
at that point?
How would one stop this type of activity, or should one even try?

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer
Regards
Fred James

PS: (My) Google(ing) turned up ...
a lot of people asking about the same error - but no answer that I
could see
a lot of people using OOo on MS - that's good to hear
some people experiencing this error with documents that did have
links to the Internet
PPS: (My) search of the OpenOffice site (http://support.openoffice.org/)
did not yield anything that looked relevant (to me)
