Heath, I was going to copy only the user, network, and printer configuration files (host*, cups/), The suggestion was made to copy everything because both machines have the same version of xubuntu installed and I want to facilitate getting the new machine working. I want to copy all the /etc/ files I need so that the new machine knows users, network hosts, and printers. Don't know that I need more than that; apt repositories, perhaps? I'm not used to working without a root account, and I don't know my way around xubuntu or the Debian distributions as I do with Slackware. (I've forgotten almost all I knew about Red Hat by now.)
