PLUG decodes as Portland Linux Unix Group (although being an informal
group, some still consider Portland Linux Users Group to be equally
correct).  Back in the olden days, as Linux was ramping up, the
Portland Unix Users Group was (I understand, I wasn't there) kind of
folding up its tent, and it was made known that PUUG people were
welcome at PLUG.  At least that's the mythology I am familiar with.
Again, I don't know that first hand.
