Probably 10 or 11 years ago, I took a web based Linux class at Clackamas Community College. As I recall, it included a fair amount of scripting. I don't know if it's still offered, but perhaps that, or one offered by one of the other community colleges, might fit the bill. Of course, they aren't free (as in beer).
