I wonder what the signal to noise ratio is which I think would affect the
signal quality and the cards ability to keep an association with the AP even
if the link quality is good. Why not invest in a cheap USB wifi adapter or a
cheap non realtek wireless PCI card? I've had very good luck with the
broadcom based Linksys gear as well as Atheros based stuff.

Do you have a laptop? Maybe try walking the length between the 2 buildings
with some type of wireless survery/wireless discovery software and figure
out why the disassociation is happening. If you don't have the facility to
do so, I can come out at some point in the near future and give it a shot.
