It'd be nice to see the article.

A couple remarks off the top of my head:
* My laptop takes 19V, most power tool batteries are less than that.  Which
  means a DC-DC converter with 5-15% power loss.  Add to that the loss in
  the laptop's internal power supply.
* Hopefully you can find a good way to hook up to the battery w/o damaging
  the charging contacts.  Otherwise, you're buying/making a charger as well.

All that said, power-tool batteries can be a pretty good deal, especially
when you already have the tools and charger.
