All,

I have this new project I'm working on that requires me to remotely
access my linux clients from behind a firewall. The linux clients will
be running an application at a certain time and would be best if I could
monitor and alter their configuration remotely at any given time. I
remember there being a way for me to send an x window remotely from
within a firewall to an outside world but thought to ask here if there
is any new forms of accomplishing my goals so here are the details.

-Client at a remote location behind a firewall, it is able to access the
internet and upload and connect to different services. The firewall here
should not be altered.
-Server at another location that is configurable and behind another
firewall but that firewall can be altered.

I'd hope to have the client start a ssh connection to the server on a
designated port(that the server is listening too) and then send either
an xterm, x-application, or perhaps the entire desktop of the remote
client. The server user could then configure and alter any UI settings
and make dynamic changes to any running applications.

This is for all legal reasons and all people involve are completely
supportive of the idea. I need an X window because the applications
being used will have slider controls that may need changing.

If you have any ideas or suggestions that would make this project easier
or reasons why it will not work I'd appreciate any feedback. I'm going
off to test some theories but perhaps someone here will save me from
having lots of headaches as I develop a solution.

Thanks,

Josh
