Close any open Firefox sessions. Then Open a terminal and type this: $ firefox -ProfileManager
Create a new profile (e.g. foo), select the new profile, uncheck "Don't ask at startup", then click on "Start Firefox". Once you have your browser window open, click Edit > Preferences. Does it display properly? If not, switch to the terminal window using Alt+Tab to see if there are any error messages and what they say. If it does display correctly, exit Firefox, start Firefox, delete the old profile and use the new one (rename it first, if desired). Good luck and let us know how things go.
