I would think this is prefectly fine in terms of size.

However, you should consider whether or not the motherboard is
dual-channel or not.  Not sure if you're familiar with this timing
hack that motherboards have been using, but often you can get better
speed out of 2 or 3 smaller memory sticks rather than a single one of
a larger size (with all timing specs being otherwise the same).

Of course you can always start with a single 1GB stick and then add
another later, but you want to make sure it's the same kind or at
least has the same timing.  Also, as that memory type ages and falls
out of fashion, prices will go up.
