Or edit the file "/etc/sysconfig/network".

This will require either a restart of the network (service network 
restart) or a reboot.

/bin/hostname $HOSTNAME is not sticky.  When you reboot it will be back 
to what is was originally.  I don't see anything GUI-wise as a normal 
user.  So if you've haven't made the PAM/LOGIN changes to allow root to 
do GUI you'll have to su/sudo to root in a terminal to make the change.
