Drives used in music players are even worse, in my experience. Several
years ago I bought a Sony 300 CD changer thinking I could load my entire
music collection into it and be able to control my music selections
with the remote control. It lasted a couple months past the one year
warranty before it started skipping. And I didn't even use it very much.

I've never had an optical drive in a computer go out, in spite of the
severe use they get. Guess I've been lucky.

My next acquisition will be a blueray for my desktop. I'll have to
check reviews carefully.
