I think if you just do dpkg-reconfigure on dash again (same command
they describe), it'll prompt you again for the same choice of whether
or not to use it as /bin/sh.

It could be that the Makefiles they use implicitly shell out and
they've got bashisms in there.  That might make it a little harder to
fix.  Some environment variable or make config could overcome that.
Just speculation...
