If you want to un-mount the media then with NFS you would simply un-export it.
This assumes that no other machine has NFS references to it or you
still won't be able to
un-mount it.

Samba doesn't have such mechanisms show you would have to stop the service.

That said any media that you want to share should probably be copied to disk
as an image and then loop mounted removing the need to tie up the
physical device.

Also autofs for media is normally used to allow the local user of the
machine access
to the physical devices without the need of root access.

For remote media access I would probably go with WebDav.  Mount it up
through the a web server.
I haven't tried it but it would remove any external references
preventing the media from being un-mounted
via autofs.
