No, I shan't assume that ... the usual cautions about eBay and PayPal 
apply, of course ... they have proved over the years to be somewhat 
infested, as one might expect from any such open bazaar.

However, the real core of my advice is to (if you don't already) get 
into online banking, and (if you don't already) check it every day ... 
at least once a day.
My experience has been that if one spots an "issue" or a potential 
issue, the bank will normally be willing to supply the phone number of 
the merchant/vendor and often a phone call will end the matter there.

And a repeat of the standard:  buy only from known and trusted (fill in 
the blank) ... refer to the "eBay and PayPal" reference above ... please 
note that the infestation of a few is most unfortunately tainting the 
many unfairly, none the less caution is advised.

All that said, canceling the card, based the detail you have provided, 
is the right move.
