Not sure of the exact steps you took but I had a similar problem with one of the betas. Here is how I got around it...
When booting, hold down on the shift key to show the GRUB menu. >From the menu, select the RECOVERY option, this will give you access to a root prompt At this point you can change the password for any user, so just change it to one that you can remember when done, simply reboot and you should be able to log in using the new password.
