I switched from a Radeon HD 3450 AGP 4x/8x card to an NVIDIA 4x/8x 6200 AGP card. First problem at least for Fedora 12 is that I have to use a proprietary driver instead of the nouveau driver. Second issue, the proprietary driver doesn't seem to support text consoles. Another problem that has come up when I try to run Dirk Dashing or Eschalon Book I full screen is that the game isn't fit to the screen.
On the up side, I can report that Eschalon Book I at least runs much much faster with the NVIDIA card than it does with the Radeon HD card and the random crashing issue seems to have gone away. On the downside, looking for a Linux compatible video card and then having to use an imperfect proprietary driver isn't cool. Slackware 13 seems to be able to support the NVIDIA card with an OSS driver which is odd. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
