dict.org appears to be down -- it's been this way for at least a day
or two (I noticed it wasn't working earlier this week, but I don't
recall when.) Googling also reveals that this is a widespread issue.

Adding the dict server you found to /etc/dictd/dict.conf, right after
localhost, made dict behave normally for me (modulo sending requests
to Denmark, but that doesn't concern me overmuch. :)

It *appears* that all three of the dict servers I had configured went
down at the same time -- that seems like a particularly poor choice of
defaults, but perhaps it's more complex than I realize.
