SVC: failed to register lockdv1 RPC service (errno 97)

I notice that this seems to hit when the Linux From Scratch script
for mounting non root file systems is reached.

I am adapting a compiled from scratch Linux system to be an NFS root
system.

One strange problem, iptraf installed under /usr/local/bin isn't
copyable let alone usable and I don't understand why. I get permission
denied period even when I'm root. I'm nfs exporting usr (ro,sync), so
I wonder if I need to root_squash or if this trouble is related to
errno 97?

[ad...@goose rcsysinit.d]$ ls
S10mountkernfs S25udev S40portmap S55udev_retry S70network
S15consolelog S30swap S45mountfs S60console S75sysctl
S20modules S35checkfs S50cleanfs S65localnet
[ad...@goose rcsysinit.d]$

[ad...@goose rc3.d]$ ls
S10sysklogd S25random S30sshd S70gpm S80nfs-client S85ez-ntpc.sh
[ad...@goose rc3.d]$

The above snippets show how I have reordered and adjusted the boot
time scripts.

I also had to move libwrap.so.0.7.6 I believe to /lib so that portmap
will work before /usr is mounted.

I wish the blfs book would release information on writing appropriate
init scripts for network root booting. Another option would be a
substitute set of scripts. I guess you almost have to mount a ram disk
and chroot to it when root is a remote file system. It would be
preferable to have shutdown and reboot actually work in a NFS root
environment. Runlevel 1 is problematic in such an environment.

The instructions for installing X from source in the BLFS book don't
seem to work, period. I can't figure out how the suggested commands are
supposed to feed the proper file names to wget so that all the required
packages can be retrieved and built. X is a nice tool for doing
recovery work, though not absolutely necessary. I'm thinking tab window
manager is good enough for a graphical front end to a back up tool(s).

Out of curiosity, what is the best way to back up a Windows 7 system
using ntfs-3g so that you can recover to a blank replacement hard
drive? I don't want to go the dd route, hard drives are getting
too big for that. My dad is in Windows 7 hell, no media to reinstall
it from.
