Also, Larry may want to consult his contract with Comcast- I was alarmed a few years (and in another state/city) ago to discover that my contract with Comcast did not allow me to have my own modem without paying a fee to Comcast (it basically would wind up costing me *more* to not rent the modem). The one thing that saved me was that a few aggressive competitors were popping up in my area at the time and Comcast's monopoly was ending. They were paranoid about losing their customers, so I basically called them up and threatened to leave unless I got rid of the modem rental fee (and back to the starting discount rate that I originally was on :-) which actually worked. Might pay to call your Comcast line and act the penny-pinching customer who is seriously considering going to the competition :-) >> On dyndns.com I paid $15 for 1 year service, don't know if I needed to >> though. I use http://freedns.afraid.org/, which is free, and, so far, I've had no complaints about it. Years ago I used Zoneedit (still have a few domains locked away in it that I need to deal with) but I can't say I recommend it simply because it has what I'd call overly draconian password policies (and this comes from someone who's already pretty draconian about his password policies as is). ---Sam _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
